Ivory Coast to Pay Cashew Farmers 65% More, Matin Reports
Cashew farmers in Ivory Coast will be paid 65 percent higher prices this season, Fraternite Matin reported, citing incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo’s Agriculture Minister, Issa Malick Coulibaly.
Growers will get 280 CFA francs ($0.58) per kilogram (2.2 pounds) as the West African nation targets production of more than 400,000 metric tons this year, the state-owned, Abidjan- based newspaper cited Coulibaly as saying.
Ivory Coast is Africa’s second-biggest cashew-nut grower after Nigeria, according to the websiteof the Food and Agricultural Organization.
